What is Pay Transparency?

A New Era of Job Searching

Pay transparency means that individuals have access to their own pay information as well as how that data compares to others within their company and to the broader job market.

A pay-transparent world aims to demystify the ways companies pay employees, ensuring one knows not only how much they should be paid but also how their pay is determined.

Anti-Pay Secrecy laws prevent companies from banning employees from discussing their salaries with each other.

Pay Data Reporting laws require companies to share their pay data with a third-party and comment on their progress towards pay equality.

Salary history bans prevent companies from looking at an employee's past salaries when determining their pay.

Recent state legislation centers on pay scale disclosure laws which require companies to accompany job postings with an expected salary range.

A Resource for
Employees & Companies

Pay transparency creates a positive cycle between employees and companies that sows trust and results in higher employee retention rates. Research shows this leads to more productive and profitable companies.

However, for pay transparency laws to be most effective, companies and employees must work together.
